If colon cancer is at a more advanced stage, chemotherapy becomes an option. Many people have heard horror stories about chemotherapy side effects and are worried about how the treatment will affect them. Dr. Dayyani addresses these side effects and how modern medicine has learned to manage them.

“The general side effects that everybody should be aware of such as fatigue, generalized weakness, lack of energy, nausea and vomiting,” Dr. Dayyani says. “But it is important to realize in 2013, we have very, very good medication to control most of the side effects so although we do mention them, it is more for the patient to be aware that these kind of occur, so the patient can bring those up so we can manage them.” He discusses several specific types of treatment and their known side effects in the video.

It’s important for colon cancer patients to know the side effects of their medicines and they should bring up any concerns with their doctors.
