Diagnosis Process for Colon Cancer

Getting diagnosed with prostate cancer can be an overwhelming experience, so we asked Dr. Dayyani to explain what the process is like from diagnosis to treatment, and the different doctors and specialists who would be involved with a patient’s case.

The best treatment for colon cancer comes from a multidisciplinary team. “It is very important to know that for the optimal outcomes in the care of colon cancer patients, a multi-disciplinary approach has been shown to be beneficial meaning going to a center where different specialities all come together and think about the patient at the same time to come to the best results,” Dr. Dayyani says.

He discusses some of the people that a patient will meet with, from a gastroenterologist, to a surgeon, to a medical oncologist.

Dr. Farshid Dayyani earned his medical degree in Munich, Germany at Ludwig-Maximilians Universitaet before completing his internal medicine internship and residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Mass. He then completed his fellowship in medical oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Board certified in both internal medicine and medical oncology, Dr. Dayyani specializes in cancers of the genitourinary and gastrointestinal systems.
