Nutrition can play a vital role in a patient’s quality of life. Kim and John stopped eating food from boxes. They start their diet change after stage IV colon cancer in the produce aisle. Now they only prepare meals from fresh food. It is more nutritious and cheaper than eating processed foods. Kim enjoys cooking and has learned some new techniques to cater to her husband’s health. Exercise is important, also. “Whether it be walking the dog to the mailbox or taking a hike or you know, walking around the mall without spending money. Those things were really important and they became parts of our lives,” Kim says.

Kim Rogers: Hi, my name is Kim Rogers and this is the way we changed our nutrition and exercise after stage IV colon cancer.

Diet changes after colon cancer were a big deal in our house. We stopped buying boxed foods. Ya, may be they are cheap, Ya may be they are okay for feeding four people but we started straight from the produce aisle, anything, everything, it was cheaper actually than buying boxed foods and it was more nutritious and I loved to cook, so it helped me learn more about what to cook, how to cook, steaming that was kinds of things.

It was really important that nutrition become a big deal in our lives. Also not only nutrition but exercise, whether it be walking the dog to the mailbox or taking a hike or you know, walking around the mall without spending money. Those things were really important and they became parts of our lives.
