Heather Paulson ND FABNO: There are so many resources out there about cancer and cancer care. Sometimes that’s hard to pick and filter where to start and what would be a good place to learn more about your cancer, so let me give you a couple of my favorite books and some of my favorite websites where I like to learn new information about cancer care.
One of my favorite books is the book Anticancer: A New Way of Life and this book talks about simple lifestyle changes that you can make to reduce your risk of cancer or even impact your current cancer cell growth and it goes through sleeping, mushrooms, and green tea, all of different little pieces of your daily habits that you can change in order to reduce your risk of cancer.
Another one of my favorite books that is just recently come on to the market is a book called Radical Remissions which is a book that’s looking at how do people actually recover from cancer when their doctors thought that there was no hope or they weren’t going to be able to get better and this book interviewed the people who actually recovered from their cancer and when into what’s now being termed a radical remission or remission that was not otherwise thought to be possible. Some of my favorite websites are the environmental working group that website looks at the different environmental impacts of the chemicals that surround us and how they impact our general health.
There are something that are specific to estrogens and xenoestrogens that are located within ewg.org, but it has a ton of information about everything from your nail polish, your sunscreen, organic versus nonorganic foods any question that you have about how environmental health impacts your personal health. Another great resource online is American Institute of Cancer Research and they are responsible for looking at the link between diet and exercise and cancer cell growth, so no matter what type of cancer type you have whether it be breast cancer or colon cancer, you can get tons of information and you can download research studies directly from the American Institute of Cancer Research or aicr.org and learn about the exercise that they recommend and the specific foods that are linked to reducing the growth of your particular cancer type, so I was recommending some resources to you in my office. These would be some of the things that we will talk about.
