Heather Paulson ND FABNO: The role of a naturopathic oncologist is often questioned about you know who takes the lead in the treatment of somebody with cancer and I really feel that somebody who has been diagnosed with cancer needs a team of support, so who is the role of the lead doctor, it’s really not about that, it’s really about creating a team and healing environment that helps you get to your best health possible and so sometimes that means a medical oncologist is going to be the frontrunner because you are undergoing chemotherapy. They are talking about changing treatments and sometimes that means a naturopath is going to be your frontrunner because you need to address a side effect or you are reducing your risk of recurrence in your cancer survivor or may be you have a family history of colon cancer and you want to put in preventative strategies and those are places where naturopathic oncologist and naturopathic physicians can be huge-huge pieces of your healthcare team. When it comes to creating your healthcare team or making any changes in your healthcare plan, it’s really important that you consult everybody who is currently on your team before making any changes.
You want to make sure that any changes that you make or additions that you make are ran by your current doctor and doctor’s nurses everybody that’s there to support your health and well being.
