Beverly Yoches: In our society today, if you break your leg or you have a sore throat or you have a cancer diagnosis, we go to the doctor and we tell everybody about our treatment and there does not seem to be any shame in it. However, when we start to feel sad, depressed, anxious, we want to hide that and there is such a stigma around seeing a psychologist because mental illness is looked upon within a lot of cultures and families as being shameful and so I think a lot of that keeps people from reaching out and there is also the stigma that you must have to be really crazy to see a psychologist and that’s not the case at all, so psychological help is there, it is beneficial and I believe the mind body spirit connection is important during this time.
