Beverly Yoches, MD: There is individual therapies available, as well as group therapy. With individual therapy, the patient would work with the licensed psychologist or mental health professional to help adjust to the diagnosis, cope with the symptoms of treatment, and just develop positive coping skills as they move through the process. Some patients like group therapy because that gives them an opportunity to be with individuals just like them and so, often times there is an exchange of information. For example, they can share their successes or challenges. And it also helps to normalize that they are not alone as they go through this process. So group therapy can be very, very powerful.
