Will I Survive Colon Cancer?

When a patient is diagnosed with colon cancer, their first though is often, “Will I live through this?” In this video, Dr. Farshid Dayyani explains each stage of colon cancer and the probable survival rate.

Each stage of colon cancer has a different survival probability. Stage 1, over 93% of patients will be cured. Stage 2 colon cancer, 75% to 85% of colon cancer is curable. These cures include surgery and sometimes chemo and radiation. The numbers continue to decrease for Stage 3 and Stage 4.

“All of these numbers are historical and we hope that in 2013 combining chemotherapy in early stage disease, we might be able to achieve better results,” he says.

Dr. Farshid Dayyani earned his medical degree in Munich, Germany at Ludwig-Maximilians Universitaet before completing his internal medicine internship and residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Mass. He then completed his fellowship in medical oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Board certified in both internal medicine and medical oncology, Dr. Dayyani specializes in cancers of the genitourinary and gastrointestinal systems.
